If they didn't land, these Danish civilians took part in the logistics of the D-Day landings, transporting the equipment needed for the Allied offensive to the waters off Utah Beach on cargo ships, including the Nordvest. Historians estimate Danish participation in D-Day operations at 30 ships and 500 sailors, to which must be added 300 other Danes operating on Allied ships. There would also have been around 200 Danes in the fighting forces.
On June 6, 2014, as part of the commemorations of the 70th anniversary of D-Day, the Queen of Denmark Margrethe II and French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, paid tribute to these sailors in front of the monument.
This is the first time that Danish participation has been recognized as such, and that Denmark has been officially invited to take part in the remembrance ceremonies (source Wikipedia)
