Jerusalem cemetery

After the capture of Bayeux on June 7, British troops advanced towards Tilly-sur-Seulles, but faced German counter-attack and resistance. On June 10, the Durham Light Infantry buried three of its soldiers killed that day in the hamlet of Jerusalem, in the commune of Juaye-Mondaye. In the end, 35 bodies were buried there.

 The current cemetery was created in the commune of Chouain, at a place called Le Douet de Chouain, near the Château de Belval, by grouping together the bodies buried in Jerusalem and 12 others resting in Belval itself.  The youngest British soldier, J. BANKS, is buried in this cemetery at the age of 16...
