La Pernelle

Returning home on the evening of October 11, 1944, Auguste Lefèbvre surprised three hooded men, obviously American soldiers, who were attacking his 19-year-old daughter and her family. Only his courage convinced him to jump on the attackers. Unfortunately, one of the soldiers stabbed him fatally. The after-effects of the violence will scar his daughter for the rest of her life, as well as his injured wife. They were treated in an American hospital. After an investigation, the murderers were arrested in December 1944 and sentenced to hang by an American court-martial. They were executed at the hamlet of Scipion in La Pernelle on April 19, 1945.
