On a mission to bomb bridges, the B-26 Marauder "By Golly" of the 397th Bomb Group falls prey to German fighters of the Luftwaffe. Repeatedly targeted the B-26 is on fire and pilot Captain John Q. West orders his crew to jump. With Lieutenant Cramer unable to jump since his parachute had partially burned, Captain West decided on a forced landing here. Sadly, they both perished in the crash.
