Crash Lancaster LL864

On the night of June 7-8, 1944, a Lancaster bomber of the Royal Air Force crashed in flames south of the village, on the Ajoux plain. This stele frames a propeller blade from the plane, and pays tribute to the seven crew members who lie buried in our cemetery. Their sacrifice is our freedom today. This monument forever bears witness to the admiration and gratitude of the people of Givernois.
