Memorial in memory of T/5 Edwind S. HOHL
Medic 3/501st PIR of the 101st Airborne
In this place, on June 6, 1944, in the early morning, a group consisting of 150 American paratroopers, coming from the west began their advance into the hamlet of Poupevillein order to secure Causeway No. 1.
Arriving at the crossroads, Major Lawrence Legere was hit by an enemy bullet in the thigh and fell to the ground. Medic Edwind Hohl emerged from cover and rushed to the aid of the major lying on the ground. After kneeling down, the 20-year-old was fatally shot in the chest, despite wearing the armband of the Red Cross.
