Text: Maquis de Sérent/Saint Marcel. It is here in Sérentaise land, at the ferme de la Nouette opposite this monument, that the important Sérent/Saint Marcel maquis begins. On the night of December 21-22, 1942, Guy LENFANT, in charge of the COCKLE mission entrusted to him by colonel Passsy in London, parachuted with his radio onto the Lac aux Ducs de Ploërmel. As soon as he arrived, he contacted a group of Ploërmel resistance fighters, then met Emile Guimard from Lizio, who suggested that he look for places to parachute and drop weapons. Initially, the latter enlisted the help of two French resistance fighters, who informed him that the Pinieux moors in the commune would be an ideal location for such an operation. An appointment was made with the farmer PONDARD de la Nouette, who immediately agreed to make a large plot of land behind the buildings on his farm available to the resistance. The land is immediately approved by Colonel Passy under the code name of "Baleine" and placed under the responsibility of Emile Guimard. It successfully received its first airdrop in May 1943...
