After escaping arrest several times, Brossolette wants to return to London to introduce the new head of the
CNR, Émile Bollaert, to
General de Gaulle. Several exfiltration attempts by Lysander fail.
Brossolette decides to return by boat. On February 3, 1944, setting out from Île-Tudy, the pinasse le Jouet des Flots, which was to take them to a British frigate off the island of Sein, was wrecked by bad weather near the Pointe du Raz. The two Resistance leaders, along with some 30 Allied sailors and airmen, were stranded on the coast, where they were welcomed by the local resistance. During a routine roadblock, as they arrive in
Audierne in a gas-powered car, they are denounced by a collaborator, checked by a Wehrmacht flying post and taken to prison in Rennes, headquarters of the local Kommandantur. source
