The bombing of Crest on August 13, 1944 caused many civilian casualties with little effect.

Commandant de Lassus asked Henri Faure (in charge of receiving and parachuting on "Temple" in Alex) to organize a commando unit to blow up the Livron bridge in order to avoid an American bombing raid with its collateral casualties, and to slow down a German retreat.

The operation succeeded on the night of August 16-17, 1944.

There were 20 members of the commando.

Details of the operation on the panels adjacent to this stele. (French-English)
