Stele in memory and remembrance, text engraved on the stele: "In memory of the 3rd Battalion 129th Infantry Regiment which garrisoned Caen from 1909 to 1939" and "in memory of the officers non-commissioned officers soldiers fallen on the field of honor 14-18 39-40 56-61 Algeria". A barracks was indeed built within the walls of Caen castle. It was occupied by the Germans and suffered much damage during bombing raids, destroyed after the war.
