The Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery is a Canadian military cemetery of the World War II, located not far from Bretteville-sur-Laize, on the territory of the commune of Cintheaux, in the Calvados department, near Caen in Normandy.
2,793 soldiers of the 2nd Canadian Corps, killed during the last weeks (July-August 1944) of the Battle of Normandy south of Caen (Saint-André-sur-Orne, Saint Martin-de-Fontenay), and in particular during the fighting in the poche de Falaise, including Gérard Doré, killed on July 23, 1944 on the Verrières ridge during Operation Spring and considered the youngest allied soldier killed on the Western Front during the Second World War, at the age of 16 years and 11 months. 79 airmen of the RCAF(Royal Canadian Air Force) and 91 unknown soldiers also lie here.
