Grotte de la Luire

Exploration of the cavity's first conduits began in the late nineteenth century. Its vast entrance porch housed a Resistance hospital for a few days during the World War II. On July 27, 1944, it was the scene of a bloody attack during a German raid against the maquis du Vercors. This attack resulted in the massacre of the 35 wounded maquisards, the doctors, the Jesuit priest Yves de Montcheuil, and the arrest and deportation of the female nursing staff
