Stele in memory of the American soldiers of the 30th US Infantry Division who resisted German assaults at this location between August 8 and 14, 1944.

The 30th Infantry Division ('30th Infantry Division) was a division of the US Army (more precisely, the Army National Guard) active in both World Wars. It was nicknamed the Old Hickory Division, in honor of President Andrew Jackson. The Germans nicknamed it Roosevelt's SS duringWorld War II. According to US Army historian S.L.A. Marshall, it was the most engaged infantry division on the European front, with 282 cumulative combat days between June 1944 and April 1945.
