Here on the field "Serrurier" was dropped on July 14, 1944 by the flying fortresses of the 3rd Division of the 8th US Air Force during operation Cadillac, 431 containers.
This daytime parachute drop was the largest of the World War II.

Operation Cadillac

The Allied landings on June 6, 1944 forced the Germans to reorganize their troops. Operation Cadillac is programmed by the British SOE and one of its aims is to delay the German Das Reich division on its way to Normandy.

322 American B-17s, i.e. 9 formations made up of 36 B-17s each, escorted by 524 fighters P-51s and P-47s are engaged in the operation. 3,780 containers of weapons and various equipment for the French Forces de l'Intérieur were parachuted in broad daylight over the Ain, Maquis du Vercors, Haute-Vienne, Corrèze, Lot, Cantal and Puy-de-Dôme.

The largest parachute drop, at La Maresque airfield in Loubressac, Lot, consisted of 75 B-17 flying fortresses accompanied by 200 fighters. British and American officers also parachuted into the drop zones, in support of French resistance groups. They later organized the August 15, 1944 landing on the Côte d'Azur.
