The Canadian War Museum (CWM) is Canada's national museum of military history. It is located in Ottawa on Lebreton Flats.
It covers all aspects of the country's military past, from the first recorded cases of death by gun violence in the country's history, thousands of years ago, to the most recent conflicts in which the country has been involved. It features major permanent exhibitions on wars fought on Canadian soil, total wars of the 20th century, the Cold War and peacekeeping operations abroad, and the history of reconnaissance, from past to present. The Museum also has an open storeroom where large objects from its collection, such as naval guns, tanks, motorcycles and a jet plane, are on display. Exhibits illustrate Canada's military past in its individual, national and international dimensions, with a particular emphasis on the human experience of war and the ways in which war has shaped Canada and been shaped by Canadian participation.
