Liberation of Villedieu les Poêles in France on 08/02/1944.
In 1944, Allied strategists decided to bomb towns located in a circle around the landing beaches to hinder the progress of German reinforcements. Saint-Lô and Vire were among them, but Villedieu was spared. The town was liberated on July 31, almost two months after the start of operations, by the American 4th US Infantry Division at the end of operation Cobra.
