The German bunker of Saint-Jacques De La Lande, also known as L-479 (type "Anton"). Located on a commune in the immediate vicinity of Rennes airport, already in use in 1940 by the German military aviation, it is one of Europe's most imposing bunkers. Now forgotten, it stands in the heart of a neighborhood, surrounded by apartment buildings. The "grand bunker" at Hauts-Bois is 28 meters long, 15 meters wide and 8 meters high. It has 2 infrastructure floors.
It housed the command post for all German air defense in the sector. Female German personnel made up the duty crews. Modern equipment for the time, it was equipped with a telephone set for all of western France, and tracked friendly and enemy aircraft by radar from England to Germany. Its main mission: assess air threats, take stock of the situation with the other centers in the network, broadcast the alert to ground or air troops, organize the response to the threat.
Today prohibited from public access, it is sometimes exceptionally open on specific days.
